[残業 (overtime)]

late night, lights still on
the sleepless city lumbers
into the morning.

tokyo, plus-eight-one
inhabitants bleary-eyed
beg for proper rest.

but the gods on high
of commerce and industry
are disappointed;

"to become the king,"
they admonish their legion,
"a price must be paid.”
